The Kent Island High School Sailing Team was founded in 2014 by a small group of enthusiastic students and dedicated parents who worked tirelessly to build the team to where it is today. From our humble beginnings as a club sport sailingĀ a small fleet of boats that were cast off by other teams, we are now a varsity sport that is 30 sailors strong and sailing a fleet of 12 identically-matched Collegiate 420s.
Sailing from purpose-built floating docks at the Kent Island Yacht Club, the team practices three afternoons per week in both the spring and fall semesters. We compete against schools throughout our state in the Maryland Interscholastic Sailing Association (MDISA). While our team has a competitive focus, we recognize that teaching young adults to sail is critical to our future success and we often accept students with no prior sailing experience.
